Dr. David Rainero was born in Oakland, California and graduated from Bishop O’Dowd High school.  After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Physiology from the University of California at Berkeley, he attended and graduated with Honors from Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.  He then completed a five year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Washington University/ Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.  This included a one year surgical internship in General Surgery.  Dr. Rainero served as Chief Resident during the fifth year of training.  He has been in private practice in Walnut Creek for over 25 years.

Dr. Rainero is on the Active Medical Staff of John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, California.  Since 1990, he has been elected to multiple terms as the Chairperson of The Department of Oral Surgery and Dentistry, and has served on the Medical Executive Committee.  He helped develop, establish and continues to coordinate the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Trauma Service at this Level II Trauma Center.

He has dedicated his professional career to the advancement of Oral Surgery care locally and globally.  He has volunteered his surgical services at numerous venues including several trips to New Orleans with Operation Blessing after hurricane Katrina left the city with no medical or dental services.  In addition, he has served on surgical missions to Nicaragua, and continues to volunteer with California Care Force, CDA Cares and Remote Area Medical providing medical, dental and oral surgery care to the under-served throughout California.  In 2016, in recognition of his years of service, he was elected to be a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (FICD) which is a “leading honor society for dentists dedicated to the recognition of outstanding professional achievement and meritorious service for the benefit of all humankind.”  He has lectured nationally and internationally on the topics of office emergency preparedness and other selected topics in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Rainero is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.  He is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Contra Costa Dental Society.

He has been a runner for over 40 years and has completed 4 marathons and numerous half marathons.  Dr. Rainero and his wife, Anne, have four daughters.

Dr. Rainero has retired from full-time clinical practice after serving the community for over 38 years. He and his wife are looking forward to spending time with their nine grandchildren and traveling. Donating his time and surgical services has always been important during his professional career. Retirement will allow him to spend more time donating surgical services at the nonprofit clinics with which he’s been associated during his practice years.
